A WPL guide to India's Women's Premier League: how it works, the teams, the stars to watch and why women's cricket is booming in India.
Women's cricket is booming in India, and this WPL guide is your starting point. The Women's Premier League has quickly become a major event, and here is how it works, who to watch and why it matters.
The WPL is India's top women's franchise T20 league, launched to do for the women's game what the IPL did for the men's. It features city-based teams, big-name overseas players and India's best talent on one stage.
Like the men's tournament, the WPL runs a league phase followed by playoffs, with matches in the fast, three-hour T20 format. It is held in its own window earlier in the year.
This WPL guide exists because the league is changing Indian cricket: more visibility, better pay and a clear pathway for women players. The record audiences show how fast the women's game is growing.
